 Part I: Instructions

1. You will pair up with a peer to deliver the noon meal for Meals on Wheels recipients.

2. Meals on Wheels (MOW) is located in the Veterans Hospital (VA) in Columbia.

• See map that was distributed in class
• If  lost, call MOW at 886-7554

REMEMBER: You are looking for the patient kitchen at the VA which is on the basement or ground floor depending on which entrance you take.   There is a gathering room behind the kitchen facing the back dock and the Hearnes Building.

3. Arrive around 10:45-11:00 am on your assigned day.

4. The length of time required to complete the delivery route will vary with the number of meals delivered, location, distance between stops, etc. Delivery takes 15-60 minutes depending on the route.

 Part II: Assignment

The assignment is due by via TurnItIn on Friday, July 11:59 pm.  Format should be single or 1.5 spaced, typed.  Please be sure you are writing in prose (i.e. complete sentences, not bulleted points).  Poor grammar and misspelled words will reduce your overall score.

In the report, please include the following:

• Date of observation
• Location of observation (i.e. within Columbia, out in the countryside, town other than Columbia, etc.) Do NOT include house numbers and specific street addresses, as this information is to remain confidential.
• Number of stops made on the route
• Participants’ reaction to the service provided
• Your reaction to the service provided
• How does Meals on Wheels meet the psychosocial and nutritional needs of the homebound elderly participants? Please include comments about the actual food.
