Please choose one or a related series of works by an artist mentioned during the course and/or in the textbook (History of Modern Art, H.H.Arnason). Trace the influences of prior works on your artist’s work or works. For example you might choose Woman I by Willem de Kooning. You should first provide a brief description and analysis of the painting(s). Then discuss various influences you know the artist used in his painting—the Woman of Willendorf, a Picasso Analytic Cubist piece and 1950’s Pinup calendars. This information must come directly from the artist or from a critic or authority. You may also add your own feelings regarding possible sources for the artist’s work(s) but be sure to provide solid evidence and to site sources.
