Explain when and where slavery existed in Africa (or in a part of Africa). Be sure to distinguish it from other similar kinds of institutions. For at least one specific area, why did it appear and subsequently disappear? What were the short-run and long-run effects in the area you focus on? Was it profitable? If so, to whom?
